Michelle and I attended the Unity West Central Region Ministers & Leaders Training this week – in Santa Cruz. This is where Unity ministers, Licensed Unity Teachers (LUT’s), and Spiritual Leaders (who are on a path to ordination while leading a spiritual community) come together to discuss ministry in our times; receive training in subjects like ethics, church administration, inclusivity, youth education; and hear about the status of our movement across the nation and world.

Over the past decade or more there has been ongoing discussions about the future of Unity, especially regarding the relationship between Unity Worldwide Headquarters (UWH) – which is Unity Village (including Silent Unity, Unity Publishing, Unity Retreats, etc.) AND Unity Worldwide Ministries (UWM) which is the member organization of Unity ministries, ministers, and LUT’s which holds our collective 501(c)3 status and minister retirement program. UWM also oversees Unity’s continuing education programs for the public, the Unity seminary, licensing and ordination, and other member-support programs like access to Unity Ministry Consultants—I am one of these, employment and placement, youth education, and a myriad of other support services.

After many starts and stops – there is currently a proposal, called “Unity Re-Imagined” that would have UWH “acquire” UWM to establish ONE UNITY. It has been a multi-year effort involving extensive legal arrangements that would ensure the continuation of the collective 501(c)3 for Unity ministries and the minister’s retirement program, as well as direct services to ministers and ministries. The final Charter has been presented to our UWM membership and will be voted on at our Annual Business meeting, November 5th.  If you are interested in more information about this – go to https://www.unity.org/en/static/unity-reimagined

This Sunday, we will share a brief video describing Unity Reimagined, during our Sunday service. And our UMB Leadership Council will be voting on whether our four delegates (in addition to Michelle’s and my votes) will support this proposal. Anyone who would like to participate in that discussion can join the Leadership Council meeting downstairs, following the Sunday service. This will be the first item on the agenda.

It is an exciting time in Unity – where we are imagining a Unity movement, healing from past transgressions and resulting wounds, and coming together as One – to embody the vision we have for a world that works for all. I believe it is also timely and essential so that we can collectively do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with our God

Blessings, Rev. Vicky
