Rev. Vicky's Message January 12, 2023

I am sure you have all heard the old Yiddish proverb, “We plan, God laughs.” Of course, even as we can all relate to the experience, our understanding of God is not that of a superbeing finding glee in the thwarting of plans.

What we do understand is that in many cases, “we are not in control” (e.g., of the weather, of other people), but we absolutely have a choice in how we experience what life gives us…

Case in point – I (Vicky) was scheduled to speak this Sunday and was in the process of preparing a lesson on the four questions posed in the book, “How Then Shall We Live,” by Wayne Muller – and how our defining Unity principles inform our answers. The 4 questions are:

  • Who Am I?

  • What Do I Love?

  • How Shall I Live, Knowing I Will Die?

  • What Is My Gift to the Family of the Earth?

But our current weather circumstances – including threats of flooding rivers (namely the Salinas River) – have determined that I may not be able to get to Monterey on Sunday morning – so Michelle and I have switched speaking dates. Thus Michelle's title is still To Be Announced...

"TBA".

I invite you to begin reflecting on these questions, though, because I will be offering this lesson later in the quarter.

In the meantime, as we give thanks for this rain, everyone stay safe!

Namasté,

Rev. Vicky
