I subscribe to a number of nature/spiritual newsletters and this week one of them contained this poem by Rupi Kaur:
This is the recipe of life said my mother as she held me in her arms as I wept think of those flowers you plant in the garden each year they will teach you that people too must wilt fall root rise in order to bloom
These words are perfect for this time of year, as we notice the great changes the natural world is going through in this spring season—awakening, re-emerging, and blossoming into something new and spectacular. We can learn so much from the rhythms and patterns of nature, which are also our own rhythms and patterns, as we, too, are part of and deeply connected to the natural world.
And so we may find that we also are going through a time of deep change, transformation, or re-awakening. What is unfolding in your own heart and spirit in this season of your life?
Wherever in the process you may presently find yourself—falling, rooting, rising, or blooming—know that you are right where you need to be, and that beautiful and miraculous things are always unfolding in your life and all around you.
In the Bible, Saul/Paul of Tarsus also went through a dramatic life change when traveling one day on the road to Damascus. He found that he had to first fall, literally to the ground, before he could rise again and be awakened into a new spiritual truth. We’ll learn about Paul’s great awakening and how it may relate to our own spiritual journey this Sunday.
