Wow, this Sunday is Palm Sunday! How fast the Lenten season has flown by. I hope you have been enjoying our series, Meeting Jesus on the Road, as we travel along with Jesus and disciples and witness the many signs and wonders that happen along the way.
Our after-service class has been filled with rich discussion, not to mention yummy food! It has been so much fun to share a single pot of soup or chili or lentils. It has reminded me a lot of last year’s Lenten series, Meeting Jesus at the Table, and how so much of Jesus’ ministry takes place while gathered around a table sharing a meal with his friends and followers. There is a simple joy in the act of breaking bread together and the sharing and conversations that take place around a table.
I love Palm Sunday because it is a joyous day, even though we know the sorrow of the events that will follow. I can just imagine Jesus riding into Jerusalem on the donkey colt, while his followers throw down their cloaks for him to ride over and the crowds shout, Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!
Don’t miss the wonderful article about Palm Sunday in our 2026 Lenten booklet. The article, written by Rev. Matthew E. Long, touches on the deep meaning that can be found in the celebration of Palm Sunday. I especially like this part, found toward the end of the article:
Whenever and wherever you are reading this, today is a holy day. The place where you are standing is holy ground, and right now you have the opportunity to be in heaven. Sometimes we have to give up the good for the better. Sometimes we have to give up knowing the relative truth to know the Absolute Truth of God’s presence and power active in our lives and affairs.
To that I say, Hosanna! Hosanna in the highest! I look forward to sharing a joyous Palm Sunday celebration with all of you.
Lenten Blessings,
Rev. Michelle
