Rev. Vicky's Message January 15, 2026

If you haven’t seen Amada Gorman’s most recent poem, it is worth the read:
For Renee Nicole Good Killed by I.C.E. on January 7, 2026
They say she is no more,
That there her absence roars,
Blood-blown like a rose
Iced wheels flinched & froze.
Now, bare riot of candles,
Dark fury of flowers,
Pure howling of hymns.
If for us she arose,
Somewhere, in the pitched deep of our grief,
Crouches our power,
The howl where we begin,
Straining upon the edge of the crooked crater
Of the worst of what we’ve been.
Change is only possible,
& all the greater,
When the labour
& bitter anger of our neighbors
Is moved by the love
& better angels of our nature.
What they call death & void,
We know is breath & voice;
In the end, gorgeously,
Endures our enormity.
You could believe departed to be the dawn
When the blank night has so long stood.
But our bright-fled angels will never be fully gone,
When they forever are so fiercely Good.
As I have reflected on the tragic circumstances that inspired Gorman’s words aside all that has been going on, and sadly all that continues to unfold at the behest of our nation’s current administration – while listening for guidance as to what is mine/ours to do – I was reminded of last week’s 12 Powers lesson, and specifically, our inherent Power to say “NO”!
And I realized how important and powerful it is to Stand in Truth; to not turn away from these challenges, or allow ourselves to become numb or indifferent to what is occurring in our country – even as it may currently appear there is little we can do stop it.
The Truth is, life DOES happen from the inside > out – and so standing in and speaking Truth and Justice, allowing our hearts to be broken open, and practicing compassion are powerful, meaningful, and essential actions. It is literally what it means to “hold a high watch” – so that when guidance comes, we are ready and willing to act with courage and conviction – as followers of Christ, Truth, and Love.
I am so grateful to be standing with all of you.
Blessings,
Rev. Vicky
