CIAO! As many of you know, I just returned from a wonderful trip to Italy, celebrating my grandson, Mateo’s quinceañero (the Latin “coming of age” celebration that honors the 15th birthday transition into adulthood. It was traditionally for girls, but US Latin families are increasingly celebrating their sons’ “coming of age” as well.).
My sister Karen and I joined my daughter Bri, son-in-law, Salvador, and grandsons, Mateo (15) and Joaquin (12) for a memorable trip to Rome (the catacombs, Colosseum, Pantheon, Trevi Fountain and sooo much more); Venice (St Mark’s square and basilica, Murano, the Jewish ghetto and holocaust memorial, the multiple canals and bridges, and the backdrop for the Discovery of Witches series) … a historical journey, in some cases back almost 2 millennia! As well as, of course, AMAZING food along the way.
We moved on from ruins, basilicas and museums to the Tuscany countryside with vineyards and olive orchards and an abundance of sweet smelling wild mustard flowers… with ancient castles and ruins tucked within the hillsides. And finally, we spent the last full day on Elba island, swimming in the Mediterranean and lazing on the beach.
One unexpected turn of events was that I needed to drive one of the two cars around Tuscany and back to Rome because my daughter had not brought her Ohio drivers license. I’m still looking for the clutch each time I get into my Prius…which joyously reminds me of Italy!
A truly grand adventure… and … it’s good to be home!
Many Blessings,
Rev. Vicky
